Internship Opportunity Offers Digital Marketing Experience for Burien Youth

City of Burien and Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle Offer Digital Main Street Program for Burien Youth and Support for Local Businesses

Burien, WA (Sept 15, 2022) —The City of Burien is collaborating with the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle for a second round to provide a paid internship opportunity for Burien youth where they will develop digital marketing and other essential job skills. The program supports ShopLocalBurien.com, a new website providing an online marketplace for Burien businesses.

Youth interns will spend four weeks learning basic digital marketing skills while developing a profile, story, and social media channels for Burien business owners participating in the ShopLocalBurien.com website. They will learn how to market a small business and use multiple social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, and Tik Tok, to create an online presence for small business owners in Burien who may not have an existing presence.

Specifically, students will:

  • Learn to plan, design, and build Instagram, Facebook, and Google Business pages.
  • Develop copywriting, social media strategy, and marketing skills.
  • Learn the critical elements of a successful brand.
  • Explore career pathways in social media marketing and how to further their education in this field.
  • Receive a stipend of $500 for participation.
  • Earn a resume-building experience.

The six-week internship will run from Tuesday, October 4 – Thursday, November 17, 2022, and meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 – 6 p.m. For eligibility requirements and to apply, interested students can apply on the Urban League’s website. The deadline to apply is September 30, 2022.
