With over 80 attendees, and it was a day filled with interactive discussion, listening to experts and entrepreneurs tell their stories of success and failures, as well as networking with like-minded peers who shared extraordinary insights with each other.

2nd Annual Entrepreneurship Summit

The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle (ULMS) will be hosting its second Annual Entrepreneurship Summit in June 2024. The pilot event launched June 10th 2023, successfully hosted 80+ entrepreneurs who shared the most positive feedback and got the opportunity to learn and engage with government, resource providers, and experts from fortune 500+ companies who traveled from around the nation. This new yearly event ensues as a correspondence to the needs of small business owners in the region, further providing information and resources, as well as opportunities to connect with industry specialist, leaders, and stakeholders on how we can improve our coexistence in the socioeconomic ecosystem.

This will be a great opportunity for entrepreneurs and small business owners to receive beneficial information on how to sustain and grow their business in the local economy and adjust to trends in the market. This also presents the perfect opportunity for small business service providers to become more visible in the community and interact with small businesses seeking information and services. As ULMS prepares to launch its Entrepreneurship Center, this is a quintessential occasion way to survey where ULMS can be most effective as a service provider for small businesses and interact with stakeholders on all levels.

This event will be led by the ULMS Entrepreneurship Department and spearheaded by Deionte Petty (Director of Entrepreneurship) & Abubakar Dhubow (Project Manager).

Small businesses play a critical role in our economy, providing jobs and driving growth in local communities. However, starting and running a small business can be a daunting task, especially for those who are new to the world of entrepreneurship. That’s why we’re excited to announce our upcoming summit for small businesses in our network. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive resource for small business owners, offering valuable insights, resources, and connections that will help them thrive.

At the heart of the event will be a series of panel discussions and speakers covering a wide range of topics related to establishing and maintaining a successful small business. We’ve invited experts from various fields to share their expertise, including financial advisors, marketing specialists, and successful entrepreneurs. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in lively discussions, gaining valuable insights and actionable advice that they can apply to their own businesses.

In addition to the panel discussions, we’ll also be offering a walk-in service for individuals who are just starting out and need guidance on how to get their business off the ground. Our team of experts will be on hand to answer questions and provide step-by-step guidance on everything from writing a business plan to obtaining the necessary permits and licenses. We’ll also be connecting attendees with a range of mentors, consultants, and other resource providers who can offer personalized guidance and support tailored to their specific needs.

Our goal is to provide small business owners with as much information as possible, so they can make informed decisions and succeed in their ventures. We believe that by bringing together a diverse group of experts and resources, we can help small businesses in our network thrive, creating jobs and driving growth in our local communities. The summit will be a full-day 6 ½ hour event in a location that can hold at least 80 seated attendees. There will be a stage or chairs in the front of the room which will seat panelists and a facilitator. There will be a formal opening and closing, a lunch break, and total of 5 panels with short networking intermissions in between. There will be a sign-in / signup area staffed by ULMS in the front to track attendees and collect basic contact, business, and demographic information.


  1. Capacity Building – Discussion on the issues and solutions of starting and growing a business in the Seattle / King County market.
  2. Access to Capital – Discussion on the different types of lending options available for small businesses and how to prepare for funding. This should include both conventional and unconventional lending, venture capital, and grants.
  3. Contract Procurement – Discussion on how a small business can get contracts and be competitive candidates on the state/local government and private sector organizations.
  4. Supply Chain – Discussion on how a small business can utilize and find more vendors and capitalize on our vacant opportunities in the supply chain market.
  5. Advertising, Branding & Marketing – Discussion on how a small business can be more visible and stand out individually in today’s market.

Networking Lunch

  • Each panelist or invited organization will be assigned to a specific lunch table prior to the event.
  • The registered participants on a first come first serve basis will be able to select which table they would like to sit at during lunch.
  • This can be done at the point of registration or when they arrive for the event.
  • The lunch discussion will be on a topic that will be moderated by the panelist or invited organization.
