By being intentional about supporting Black-Owned businesses, we are contributing to the break down of systemic barriers and enhancing economic mobility.

The purpose of this directory is to serve as a bridge connecting you to more than 150 Black businesses local to King County, WA who need us to see, support and uplift them as they continue to empower a community for us, by us.
 
This list is updated frequently so be sure to come back and check for new additions!

Aside from promoting the business here on this page, all businesses featured in the Black Business directory receive:

  • Invitations to participate in ULMS community outreach events.
  • Information about new local grants and funding.
  • Promotion through our ULMS digital channels
  • Express notice of local small business development opportunities.
  • Inclusion in the printed version of the directory distributed to more than 2,500 guests at the Urban League’s annual breakfast (if submitted and vetted before November 1st of each year)

Please note, all businesses featured on the directory are vetted and MUST:

  • Be operationally based within King County, WA.
  • Have either a website or at least one social media page with evidence of frequent maintenance or posting within 60-days at the time of submission.
  • Be Black or minority-owned.

Businesses submitted via the ‘Add a Business’ button are not automatically added to the directory.

After submission, each business goes through a review period, during which they are vetted by our staff for eligibility and to ensure the continued accuracy and authenticity of the information provided on the directory.

If the business is determined ineligible, they will not be listed. If the business is eligible, they will be added to the directory!

We ask that you please have patience, as the review period typically takes 3-5 business days based on internal capacity.

Each November this directory is printed in its entirety and distributed to more than 2,500 guests at the Urban League’s Annual Breakfast and frequently throughout the next year on an as requested basis from community partners.

(More than 3,500 directories were requested  for distribution by local partners post-breakfast in 2024).

In preparation for the printed edition, businesses are re-vetted from Nov 1 – Nov 15 of each year. If a business is determined to be no longer in operation or has become ineligible for listing, it is removed from the directory.

Advocacy

During good times and bad alike, these great organizations are here to uplift, support, and propel Seattle's Black community!

Whether it be education, housing, job assistance, economic support, physical and mental health, or anything else in between: this network is built to provide resources in all facets of Black life in King County.

The Black Heritage Society of Washington State was founded in 1977 and currently holds the largest public collection of African American memorabilia in the state. BHS is a steward of the historical archive, advocate for saving heritage sites, and community stakeholder who lifts the history of Black people everyday.

FMS Global Strategies, LLC is a Black-owned, woman-led public affairs and advocacy firm headquartered in Issaquah, Washington. Founded and led by Paula F. Sardinas, the firm champions equity-centered policy, social impact, and community empowerment at every level of government and industry.

 The mission of the Kent Black Action Commission is to improve and promote the social, economic, political, spiritual and educational conditions of the Black Community in Kent, Washington and the South King County region.

Lavender Rights Project elevates the power, autonomy, and leadership of the Black intersex & gender diverse community through intersectional legal and social services. 

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Greater Seattle Chapter advocates for and impacts Black women and girls throughout the Greater Seattle area. 

The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.

The role of the Commission on African American Affairs is to examine and define issues pertaining to the rights and needs of African-Americans and make recommendations to the Governor, the Legislature and state agencies for changes in state programs and laws. 

Arts & Entertainment

Seattle has a very rich tradition in the arts, and the scene you see today is no less historic!  These Black art spaces were founded to pay homage to our legacy and provide a creative incubator for the innovators of tomorrow!

ARTE NOIR seeks to be a gathering place for exploring the dynamic creativity that springs from African and African American culture. With a focus on people, ARTE NOIR shines a light on the makers, thinkers, and doers who are, and have been, innovating in their fields; centering the soulfulness and power of Black art. ARTE NOIR exists to uplift Black artists! 

Black Arts Love is a community-based organization committed to promoting black artists, black culture and economic empowerment. They host marketplaces, networking events, community art classes, as well as provide marketing platforms and media representation and outreach for artists and small businesses. They believe that art is a catalyst for community building, healing and social justice.

Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas is the only local, nonprofit organization solely dedicated to presenting emerging Black arts, artists, and ideas in the Seattle area. They believe in the value of community, creativity, identity and passion. These values serve as a strategic frame and guide day-to-day operations and program decisions. 

Dope Culture LLC curates vibrant, community-focused events in the Seattle area, with an emphasis on showcasing underrepresented artists and storytelling.

Justice focused community bookstore and library. 

Esterbrook Creative House is a multidisciplinary storytelling and production company founded by Emmy Award–winning artist Sharon Nyree Williams. They offer voiceover, live event announcing, keynote speaking, emcee services, performance production, and arts leadership coaching — using storytelling as a tool for connection, advocacy, and impact.

Jet City Labs is a flexible, gallery-style venue in West Seattle designed for art shows, pop-ups, community gatherings, and creative events.

The mission of Langston Seattle is to strengthen and advance our community through Black arts & culture while cultivating Black brilliance.  

M. Curry Designs is a multidisciplinary creative studio specializing in murals, public art installations, fine art, and community-based art programs. The company also provides professional services including creative consultations, website and graphic design, marketing, and custom printing.

Perri Rhoden, affectionately known as thecurlynugget on Instagram, is an Abstract Mixed Media Artist and Muralist from Seattle, Washington. Her artwork is bright, bold, sensual, and full of texture. Her art is inspired by Black women and her manifestations of feminine energy captured on canvas.

Located in the heart of Seattle’s Columbia City neighborhood, the Royal Esquire Club (REC) is nationally recognized as one of the finest clubs west of the Mississippi, as well as the premiere private Black social club of the entire Pacific Northwest. 

Steppers Unite Inc. offers a variety of different dance classes for all ages to learn the art of stepping dance. From Chicago style to Line dancing, they have something for everyone who wants to step up their dance skills.

The Improv Place is a community-focused nonprofit improv theater dedicated to making improvisation accessible to all. Through free workshops, improv jams, and events like “Improv & Flow” and monthly BIPOC gatherings, they foster creativity, connection, and joy across Seattle and beyond.

Wonder of Women (WOW) is a 501c3 organization that creates space for Black women and girls to find their voice, stand in their truth, and celebrate their wonder by telling their story.

Youngstown Cultural Arts Center is an inclusive contemporary multi-arts hub that incubates the arts, art-makers, and organization from their multicultural, inter-generational communities in order to engage in civic dialogue and meaningful community transformation.

Feed The People is a community-focused, black-led initiative based in Seattle, WA. We operate a community kitchen and lead youth development programs for the love of food! Feed The People envisions communities where nourishing food is accessible, where youth grow up with strong personal connections to food and mentors, and where culinary skills are integral to youth development.

Nurturing Roots is a community farming program focused on educating youth & community members on healthy food choices. Creating community through gardening. 

Rainier Beach Action Coalition is a grassroot, Black-led organization devoted to locally driven development. For over ten years, it has promoted quality education, living wage jobs, affordable transportation and housing, and building community capacity in Seattle’s Rainier Beach neighborhood. 

The McKinney Center, managed by the Central District Community and Preservation and Development Authority provides event and meeting spaces for community organizations and business leaders in the Central District.

Abundance of Hope Center is dedicated to enriching the lives of at-risk youth. They provide services and resources to youth age 12- 26 whose lives have been affected by homelessness, oppression, sexual exploitation, human trafficking, and abuse.

Leadership development and guidance for Black boys and men with a focus on criminal justice, education, entrepreneurship, and violence prevention.
